Programmable ultrasound imaging in Medical Image Analysis
A paper coauthored by Professor Jun Hong Park demonstrates a programmable array for difference-frequency ultrasound imaging, evaluated with synthetic and ex vivo phantoms.
Imaging materials with strong acoustic impedance differences can be difficult with conventional ultrasound. A paper coauthored by Professor Jun Hong Park investigates a programmable array approach to difference-frequency ultrasound imaging.
The researchers constructed a 64-element ring array using a commercial two-dimensional matrix transducer. The system enables electronic steering and scanning, and was evaluated using synthetic agarose and ex vivo phantoms. These experiments support the imaging approach at the phantom-study stage.
“Compact programmable transmit scheme for contrast imaging using nonlinear difference-frequency ultrasound signals” was published online in October 2025 and appears in Medical Image Analysis, volume 107, Part B, article 103845 (January 2026). Authors are Dong Hun Kim, Dong-Hyun Kang, Jun Hong Park, Keun Young Huh, Baren Jeong, Whal Lee, and Byung Chul Lee.
