Improved cavitation localization at IEEE IUS 2025
Professor Jun Hong Park, Dongwoon Hyun, and Jeremy J. Dahl report a double-difference framework for locating cavitation events in therapeutic ultrasound research.
Locating cavitation activity accurately is important for monitoring therapeutic ultrasound. Professor Jun Hong Park, Dongwoon Hyun, and Jeremy J. Dahl coauthored a study that adapts double-difference localization methods to passive cavitation imaging.
The public conference abstract describes a framework combining differences between nearby cavitation events, spatial constraints, and delay–distance consistency. Evaluation included wire and flowing-microbubble phantoms and an in vivo tumor model. The abstract reports improved localization compared with the tested alternatives, supporting further work on treatment monitoring.
“Double-Difference Framework for Improved Localization of Cavitation Events in Passive Cavitation” is published in the 2025 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS) proceedings. The official program lists the work in the Microscale Imaging & Therapy lecture session on 16 September 2025.
